Old Wethersfield Stray & Kitten Rescue
rescue, adopt, love repeat!
Community is what pushes us forward and carries us through to this day.
In the summer of 2021, our President, Melinda noticed a colony of cats living in her elderly neighbor's backyard. Not knowing what to do she reached out to friends and neighbors for support. Through this process, members of the community offered to foster cats, lend traps as well as donate money to pay for veterinary costs.
As time went on more rescue requests found their way to Melinda. So, in 2022 she decided to make it official and registered OW Kitten Rescue as a 501c3 non-profit serving the needs of Wethersfield, Rocky Hill and Newington, CT.
Despite its small footprint, word of OW Kitten Rescue spread and the special bond it created amongst its volunteers.
As of 2025, OW Kitten Rescue's volunteer network spans the entire state of Connecticut! From Mark (a retiree living in West Hartford), who transports cats to/from vet appointments, to Dorothy (a school teacher from Ellington), who fosters during summer breaks with the help of her young son Elliot, to Emily (a stay-at-home mom from Canton) who loves working with "spicy kittens", to Marta (an adjunct professor from Deep River) who fosters to "fill the void", we are a family and a community that cares.
